Een semester in het buitenland om te wennen aan het donker<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Er is weinig waar meer verschil tussen is dan dag<\/strong> en nacht<\/strong>. We zijn er allemaal aan gewend de dag in twee min of meer gelijke helften te verdelen. We worden wakker, gaan naar school of werk, naar de sportschool of muziekles, komen thuis, eten en gaan naar bed. Het is het meest natuurlijke en automatische ter wereld, nietwaar?[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1680510090210{padding-top: 40px !important;padding-right: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 40px !important;padding-left: 20px !important;}”]\n
Niet in alle landen. In Finland bijvoorbeeld zijn er slechts enkele of vele uren daglicht, afhankelijk van het seizoen.<\/h5>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Ik kwam in de winter in Finland<\/strong> aan. Het eerste wat ik vanuit het vliegtuig zag, was een grote zilveren maan die een besneeuwd naald- en dennenbos verlichtte. Het was 5 uur ‘s middags en het was donker, iets wat mijn hele avontuur zou be\u00efnvloeden. Ik ging in het donker naar school en vertrok in het donker, leefde in meestal gesloten ruimtes met het licht voortdurend aan: om 9 uur, om 15 uur, om 18 uur.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”40″][vc_column_text]\n

Uren met daglicht: een niet te verwaarlozen detail<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Licht is een element dat vaak wordt onderschat<\/strong> bij het kiezen van een bestemming voor een semester in het buitenland, maar dat onze gewoonten veel meer kan be\u00efnvloeden dan verwacht. In Finland viel ik in de winter om 20.00 uur in slaap, maar in de zomer, die heel licht is, was vijf uur slaap genoeg om mijn batterijen weer op te laden! Ik werkte vaak op de meest ongewone uren, las om 5 uur ‘s ochtends een boek voordat ik naar school ging, of liep om 11 uur ‘s avonds over straat.<\/p>\n

Ik leerde me niet negatief te laten be\u00efnvloeden door de weinige uren daglicht in Finland. Daartoe heb ik verschillende tips uitgeprobeerd, zoals het vinden van nieuwe interesses<\/strong>. In navolging van de Finnen, die van DIY, decoupage en breien houden (mijn schoolkameraden breiden op elk vrij moment), heb ik verschillende handgemaakte voorwerpen gemaakt en mijn creativiteit de vrije loop gelaten. Het is geen toeval dat het noorden de bakermat van het design is![\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”40″][vc_column_text]\n

Temperatuur en klimaat in Finland<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Wonen in Finland<\/strong> in de winter leek aanvankelijk een ongelukkige keuze voor een Belg “met zon in huis”. De gemiddelde temperatuur was er -27\u00b0C: een droge, bijtende kou, anders dan onze winterkou. Zelfs in maart, wanneer de lente in de lucht hangt, was het er nog bijna -15\u00b0C. Pas in mei, wanneer het 20\u00b0C wordt, komen de mensen de straat op om te genieten van het mooie weer na de donkere, koude wintermaanden.<\/p>\n

Om de moeilijkste maanden te boven te komen, beschikken de Finnen over verschillende methoden. E\u00e9n die ik me het beste herinner is de overgang van de 80\u00b0C van een Finse sauna naar het water van -40\u00b0C in een gat dat in een bevroren meer is gegraven. Kledij om het klimaat van Finland aan te kunnen<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Kleding is natuurlijk \u00e9\u00e9n van de dingen die het meest worden be\u00efnvloed door de plaats waar je bent. In Belgi\u00eb waren een jas en een dikke trui meer dan voldoende om de kou buiten te houden. Kortom, thuis kostte het me niet meer dan vijf minuten om me klaar te maken en naar buiten te gaan. Om de temperaturen in Finland niet te veel te lijden, moest ik echter minstens 15 minuten rekenen.<\/p>\n

\u200b\u200bDe benodigde kledingstukken<\/strong>? Tanktop, coltrui, sweatshirt, jas, warmte houdende panty, kniekousen, laarzen, sjaal, handschoenen en muts. Jammer als je dit vergeet: zonder deze kleding verlies je 80 procent van uw lichaamswarmte. De enige vierkante centimeter onbedekte huid, het puntje van de neus, is bedekt met lichte vorst zodra u de voordeur opent. De koude lucht bevriest boven de neusgaten en de warme lucht die ontsnapt condenseert en verandert in water. Gevolg? Een loopneus, voortdurend. Vandaar dat de zakdoek ook een onmisbaar accessoire wordt.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”40″][vc_column_text]\n

Wat heb ik geleerd van mijn semester in het buitenland<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Door mijn ervaring in Finland kon ik bij mijn terugkeer meer meenemen dan ik had meegenomen: het vermogen om van perspectief te veranderen, een grotere kritische zin en vooral een sterke aanpassingsdrang<\/strong>. Vaardigheden die van onschatbare waarde zijn, ook op het werk, en die je niet zozeer op school leert als wel door geconfronteerd te worden met uitdagende situaties.<\/p>\n

Van daaruit kon ik beter leven, met meer openheid van denken<\/strong>\u00a0en minder koppigheid<\/strong>. Een uitdaging om te groeien<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Als je erover denkt om naar een klimatologisch moeilijke bestemming te vertrekken, misschien zelfs voor een jaar naar het buitenland<\/a>, laat je dan niet afschrikken: hoewel het in het begin misschien moeilijk lijkt, laat je niet ontmoedigen<\/strong>. Je onderdompelen in een totaal andere realiteit dan die waaraan je gewend bent, geeft je een enorme boost en doet je dubbel zo snel groeien.<\/p>\n

En misschien ontdek je dat je liever sneeuw hebt dan zeegolven, dat blootsvoets op school lopen je een groot gevoel van vrijheid geeft, dat een zaterdagavond op de bobslee leuker is dan een avondje disco. Zelfs als je 18 bent, omdat je dan veel meer lacht.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”40″]
